They’re like an old married couple.
Whenever their days off coincide, they try to spend the night before at Adam’s place, where there isn’t a nosy Allison to wake them up in the morning and chirp about her plans. They lie in bed until noon, snuggling, making out, watching TV or reading. The activity isn’t important; the bubble is. Adam loves this bubble.
Adam stretches his arms up, kicking some of the covers off. It’s a Sunday and they are both free until that afternoon; Kris needs to be at the pub at 7:00 and Adam plans to go along with him. Until then, they will probably just laze about.
He feels well rested, which makes him think back to the night before. And no wonder he feels so good; he realizes that they fell asleep before midnight. They came home from dinner with his parents, took a shower and went to bed. They didn’t even have sex. Adam frowns. Now he feels just lame. They’re like an old married couple.
He must have made a noise, because Kris mumbles something incoherent and opens one eye to look at him.
“’s wrong?”
“We’re an old married couple,” Adam informs him.
Kris blinks at him and thinks about it. “I don’t have a problem with that,” he says finally.
“You wouldn’t.”
Kris huffs at him and goes back to sleep.

Adam wakes up for the second time when he feels Kris’ breath on his face. “You think we’re boring,” Kris is saying.
“Well, we are,” Adam says before he can censor himself.
Kris nods. “Maybe you should hang out more with your friends.”
Kris doesn’t look hurt or angry. And it’s actually a pretty sensible suggestion. Adam has been neglecting his friends.
But on the other hand, he has his bubble here. The bubble is very nice and comfortable. He misses the bubble when he is out there.
“I can come along, too, if you want,” Kris continues, wrinkling his nose at the thought, “but your friends will find me terribly boring and we both know how good I am at the clubbing thing.”
Adam smiles. His friends still call Kris the Straight Guy from Sateen. Actually, it may be past time he properly introduced them.
“From what I remember, you were awesome at the club thing.”
Kris grins at him. “I did bag myself a boyfriend in one night.”
“Such a player,” Adam says, rolling his eyes.
Kris makes a face and tickles him until they are both breathless.

The third time Adam wakes up, Kris is lying between his legs and kissing his bare stomach. His hands travel up and down Adam’s sides, leaving goose bumps in their wake.
Looking down at where Kris has buried his face in his stomach, Adam frowns.
“It’s all your fault,” he grumbles.
“What is?” Kris asks, without looking up. One of his hands moves down to Adam’s inner thigh, teasing and making Adam’s insides twist.
“I’m putting on weight. It’s all those damn cheesecakes.”
Kris makes a mmmm sound. “I love you. Just like this.” He sucks a bruise low on Adam’s belly. Watching Kris’ lips move on his skin, Adam feels his breathing quicken.
“Besides,” Kris says, his hands holding onto Adam’s hips. “Now there’s—”
Adam growls. “I swear to fucking God, Allen, if you say there’s more of you to love, I will end you.”
Kris cracks up.

The fourth time, it’s Neil’s annoying voice that wakes Adam up.
“Tell me you did not just have sex here.”
Adam frowns before he even opens his eyes.
“What’s…” Kris mumbles against his chest. Adam’s arm around him tightens instinctively. Kris relaxes and doesn’t open his eyes.
“Well, seeing as how it is our bed,” Adam says–his voice sounds groggy and rough to his own ears–“I don’t see how that is any of your business.”
Neil grins like the idiot that he is. Annoying Adam brings him joy, apparently. Kris mumbles something again and buries his face under Adam’s arm. Adam pulls the sheet up over Kris’ head to protect him from Neil’s stupidity.
“Is there a point to this visit?” Adam asks. “To our bedroom?” he adds on second thought. “On a fucking Sunday?”
“Dad said last night went swimmingly. I don’t think I’ve ever heard him say swimmingly before.”
Adam thinks about it; he hasn’t either.
“Just wanted to come by and make sure our boy was still holding strong.”
“Yeah, well,” Adam says, “as you can see, we’re both doing okay. Now, go away.”
Neil smirks. Adam glares at him until he leaves. He faintly hears the apartment door clicking shut behind him.
When he slips down under the sheet to snuggle against Kris and go back to sleep, he finds a pair of smiling brown eyes staring at him.
“Our bed?” Kris says with a wide grin.
Adam rolls his eyes at him.

The fifth time Adam wakes up, he finds Kris watching him sleep.
“Creepy,” he mumbles.
Kris shrugs.
A couple of minutes pass in silence as Adam tries to gauge the time and fails completely. But it can’t be time for Kris to leave yet, it’s light out.
“Do you think your father liked me?” Kris asks, sounding thoughtful.
“Sure he did.”
“It was a bit awkward,” Kris says. “It was almost like he was trying too hard. I thought maybe he hated me.”
Adam stares at him, his brows drawn together. Kris looks really worried about this.
“He was trying to impress you.”
Kris’ mouth makes a perfect O shape. Adam can’t stop staring at his lips.
“Really?” Kris asks finally. “Are you sure?”
Adam shakes his head in exasperation. Kris makes life so hard for him. If he wasn’t so clueless, or so completely adorable, or if Adam didn’t love him so ridiculously much…life would’ve been so much easier.
“You’re the first guy I ever introduced to him. He’s been hearing things about you from Mom and Neil since probably the first time we met.”
He takes Kris’ hand in his, lacing their fingers together.
“And he knows I love you,” he says with a shrug. “He was just nervous.”
Kris grins at him, surprised and happy and cute as a goddamn puppy.
“You think he liked me.”
“He loved you,” Adam says, and it’s not a lie. He knows his father never expected him to bring home a guy like Kris. The man was very pleasantly surprised.
“He probably wants to adopt you,” Adam adds, rolling his eyes. “I’m pretty sure he is disowning me right this second to replace me with you.”
“That’s kind of scary,” Kris admits.
“Yeah, well.” Adam pulls their entwined hands towards his lips to kiss his wrist. “We’re a scary bunch. Welcome to the family.”
